Thanksgiving Cactus

It started back around Halloween.

Tiny pink nubs.

The tiny pink nubs became little pink ice cream cones.

Little pink ice cream cones became bigger pink ice cream cones.

Now it's in full bloom.

The same thing happens every year.

  6. I once inherited a dozen flowering cactus from a very old woman who lived next door. She had nurtured some of them for 20 years or so. They would flower all different colors at all different times beginning around Halloween.

    1. Wow...I didn't know they would live for that many years...pretty amazing! I guess mine isn't that unusual then is it? Thanks for sharing your experience. I guess I should be thankful that it re-blooms at all...considering my not-so-green thumb :) Thanks for stopping by!

    1. Deb...here is my tip...ignore, ignore and ignore some more...lol. It sits in a window sill facing south and if it's lucky, it gets drink once every other week :)

  9. Hi Debby! I like your term 'ice cream cones', they do look like that!
I would love to see some of these out my back door...it's so cold, and there's snow on the ground. I think No. Carolina is the place to be :)
Happy Thanksgiving to you and yours. Thank you for your warm comments on my blog. So we started about the same time? It's all such a learning curve, right? But so much fun and it's great to meet other wonderful bloggers, like YOU!
    Blessings,

    1. Ceil, of course I meant empty ice cream cones :) I am sure somewhere these things do grow outside in another climate...I've just seen them in pots around here.

Yes, somedays I still ask myself why I am actually doing this blogging stuff. In the beginning, especially, it overtook my every waking thought...went to sleep and woke up with "post" stuff on my mind. I really had to pray about it needed God to somehow let me know if I was doing it for the right reasons and if so, to help me keep it in perspective...I only wanted to bring encouragement to others and glorify Him in some way through my posts. It is truly amazing how you can "meet" people without really meeting them, isn't it? I hope you have a blessed Thanksgiving too!

    1. Susan, since I posted these pics from last week, the blooms are looking rather gloomy...with only a few unopened blooms to go. I'm afraid it will be completely finished by the time Christmas gets here :( I do have another in a red-ish color that is just now in the "tiny nub" stage. May you have a blessed Thanksgiving!
