I have to admit that while I was visiting Canada in the spring, I realized just how noisy it is everywhere, as compared to my every day routine, here, in my little village in the hills of Crete. I'm lucky that I am awakened by birdsong, and lulled to sleep at night by crickets. Whispering winds have a lot to say, actually, if we listen when they breeze by. And silence, well, that depends on my mood. Thanks for an interesting read!

PoppyPoppyhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/08980323586402386609noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7869212964119628808.post-35814578734360841702014-07-01T05:22:44.796-07:002014-07-01T05:22:44.796-07:00Debby, this is such a wonderful post. I do love the faint train whistle in the distance and the church chimes from the little town 2 miles away. I love the birdsong that starts at 4:30 in the morning. And you're so right. 'Be still and know that I am God' is difficult if our heads are filled with noise.Cranberry Morninghttps://www.blogger.com/profile/10758563068581561194noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7869212964119628808.post-90964901016112374032014-07-01T05:05:42.874-07:002014-07-01T05:05:42.874-07:00Yes it is because you are old. LOL Just Kidding! :) I have always preferred quiet as well / maybe it comes from growing up in the country.
It does seem that men need to have their TVs and radios etc. louder than women. I know if my sons are over here it seems that what they might be watching on YouTube or whatever on the Net is so much louder than necessary. Or on the weekend, a neighbor who puts the radio on while washing his car...well, do we ALL need to hear that? Yep, last nerve sometimes here, too. :)

Lovely post ! YES...Oh sister, make room for me on that soapbox!! YES, I am also tired of all the noise (and I get the irony that I "shouted" that word yes!!) I think part of the reason the noise bugs me more as I'm getting older is because I just don't seem to have the energy to turn it off or ignore it like I used to. Today I returned back to my mountain home after being "in the city" for the last two weeks with my mom. Shortly after dinner, just as it was turning dusk, my hubby told me to hurry over to our big picture window. Right outside, at our water trough, was a mama deer and the tiniest baby I have ever seen!! And then the baby started nursing. I don't know, but I need more moments like that!

Your photos were beautiful, as always, and a feast of serenity for my soul!

GOD BLESS!Sharonhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/00840994989201507494noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7869212964119628808.post-16969781674371260362014-06-30T17:56:13.778-07:002014-06-30T17:56:13.778-07:00Oh, I feel as you do about noise, Debby! Not that we don't talk (we actually do a lot of that!), but no blaring television, no loud music, no shouting voices. Peace and quiet are valued highly! Mostly, though, I pray to keep a quiet and restful heart, no matter what is going on around me.

The song you have shared is beautiful and life-giving!Cheryl https://www.blogger.com/profile/00063844335185525553noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7869212964119628808.post-16818194183521872322014-06-30T03:17:06.395-07:002014-06-30T03:17:06.395-07:00Laura, you are so right about that...the loud &quo...Laura, you are so right about that...the loud "worship" music is almost like an oxymoron, isn't it? I can't even pump gas now without a TV over the pump! Restaurants, even nice ones, have TVs up. I think quiet is crucial for cultivating our relationship with the Lord, for thinking things through, for using our imaginations . . . I loved your photos, too. Durgans? Anyway . . . she taught her children to sit still - actually gave them lessons so they could practice being quiet and still, so when they were in public, they could control themselves. I think being quiet is nerve wracking for some people who haven't "practiced" this skill. Once learned, sitting in the quiet is a beautiful thing.

Great post!
Leslie Anne Tarabellahttps://www.blogger.com/profile/02196752637270349443noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7869212964119628808.post-5254411314062912402014-06-29T15:49:26.365-07:002014-06-29T15:49:26.365-07:00Oh, Debby! It happened several years ago, back when I was still working. The lady said "what are you doing?" From the next stall. I thought it was obvious, but I answered that I was peeing. She proceeds to chatter on and on about what she did last night, and I'm saying "uh huh." I finally figured out the she could care less what I said. And I finally figured out she was chatting on a cell phone (eewww, before Bluetooth devices). I like more quite too the older I get.
