A Hodgepodge without a theme...

...I guess that's why they call it a Hodgepodge, right? 😊
Joyce, you pulled a fast one this week!

Anyway, let's get right to her questions and our answers....alrighty?

1. April showers bring May flowers or so the saying goes. Has your April been filled with showers? Do you carry an umbrella, wear a slicker, or make a run for it? Besides rain, what else has filled your April?

Funny you should ask. My April as a whole hasn't been filled with so many showers until just a few days ago. It started raining on Friday afternoon of last week and it's now Tuesday evening and finally beginning to slack off. I hear that tomorrow is going to be beautiful! I do carry my umbrella and only make a run for it if I have to when I have forgotten it. No rain slicker for me...it's all about the hair, you know. My poor short-legged wiener doggies have nearly refused to go out to do their "thing" the past few days...they may need a laxative when this is all over...haha! Getting the house back in order is still an ongoing project. The weekends preceding Easter, I completely redecorated our bedroom. It was the only room in the house that still had dark brown woodwork...and really ugly 20 year old wallpaper...

...and now afterwards...

...and if you look closely you will notice the new.......wallpaper....s-h-h-h-h-h, don't tell anyone!

You have to look closely to see it...the pattern is very soft and subtle. So that was my April.

2. What's something you could you give a 30-minute presentation on at a moment's notice and with zero preparation?

How to apply wallpaper.

3. Share with us a favorite food memory from childhood.

The discovery of Chef Boy-ar-dee Pizza Mix.

Our very first taste of pizza was the homemade kind...we had never seen such a thing until it came into the stores. We were crazy about it but my dad refused to try it and had to leave the room. He said it smelled like vomit...LOL!

4. What's a song you thought you knew the lyrics to, but later discovered you were wrong?

I'm sure there are a few out there but for the life of me I can't think of one at the moment. I will tell you though that once when I was singing the hymn "It is Well" at church as a solo I goofed up the words and realized it right away but just kept on singing like I thought they were correct. It went something like this..."When peace like a river attendeth my way, when sorrows like sea willows blow...WRONG... sea billows roll would be correct.

5. According to one travel website, the most overrated tourist attractions in America are-
Niagara Falls (NY), Hollywood Walk of Fame (California), Times Square (NYC), Epcot (FL), Seattle Space Needle (WA), and Faneuil Hall and Quincy Market (Boston). How many of these have you seen in person? Did you feel like a tourist? Did you care? Tell us about a place (not on the list) you've visited that might be considered a tourist trap, but you love it anyway.

I haven't been to any of the places mentioned...I know, I must not get out much, right? I have been to Boston and it is possible that I may have stepped foot into Quincy Market...but I don't remember because it was so long ago...I guess I must not have felt like a tourist and I guess I didn't care either. I may have still been feeling the effects of the lobster pie I had the night before that made me sicker than a dog. Actually, I was pregnant and didn't know it yet and it's quite likely that all of the butter that lobster was swimming in (although it was terribly delicious) didn't set right on my pre-natal digestive system. Nashville would be my pick that's not on the list.

6. Your signature clothing item?

Black pants, be they long or cropped.

7. What's an experience you've had you think everyone should experience at least once? Why?

Probably 35 years ago or more when I was young and foolish, I flew in a glider...in fact, I actually flew the glider. I went up with the pilot and when we reached the proper altitude, he allowed me to flip the lever which disconnected us to the tow plane. It was about 20 minutes of feeling like a bird...no engine noise, only the sound of the wind that kept us going until we gradually descended back down to the landing strip, which I maneuvered as well. Why? Why not?!

8. Insert your own random thought here.

It has finally stopped raining :)

  1. Enjoyed reading your answers, Debby. I have never put up wall paper, flew in a glider, but it did rain this week and I have been to Epcot but none of the other places.
    Have a good day.

  2. Ohh my goodness, you've just sold me on wallpaper! That looks so nice. We have ancient wallpaper in our bedroom and I know that although we sized it according to instructions before putting it up, it will be nearly impossible to get off. I've been dreading the hours of chipping away at it. Your solution is beautiful. I laughed at your hymn lyrics mixup. I'm sure I have one of those too. Have a wonderful Wednesday, Debby.

  3. We love our black pants don't we? Your bedroom looks amazing! What a transformation. So you must have wallpapered over wallpaper? I've done that before, the paintable kind. I like the texture. Looks great. Boy that pizza mix takes me back. That's how we also were introduced to pizza. The first "real" pizza I remember having was in high school. Good answers! It is nice to see the sun today. Out I go to mow the nearly knee high grass (a bit of an exaggeration).

  4. Your new bedroom looks great!! Isn't it energizing to have a fresh space? (Of course, you must have had some energy in the first place to strip and hang wallpaper by yourself! That is a JOB!)

The story of your hymn flub-up makes me smile. You chose the better way: just keep on going as if nothing has happened. A friend of mine tells a story about her father who corrected his mistake mid-word . . . with disastrous consequences! :D

Love the photo at the beginning of your post!!

  5. Love how your bedroom looks...everything turned out beautifully! Isn't it amazing how a few upgrades can make everything feel so fresh and new? OK...that first photo of the flowers is absolutely GORGEOUS! Do you take your shots on the automatic setting or do you switch up the F-stop, shutter speed, etc?

  6. Fun answers, Debby! And I love the bedroom makeover. Looks so serene and calming and springlike. That wallpaper is amazing. We wallpapered when we first built our house and some of it is still here. We've pretty much decided no wallpaper ever again, though. We've put wood paneling over some of it, painted over some of it, removed some of it and painted ... pretty much every technique. Yours looks lovely, though.

  7. I tried to wallpaper...once. It went up easily. It was a sight to see. The pattern matched at all the seams. The seams were hidden. I was so proud of my first attempt. It was all on the floor the next morning. I would watch your demonstration.

  8. Your bedroom looks lovely. That's quite a trip down memory lane - Chef Boy-ar-dee pizza!

  9. I am just LOVING the bedroom makeover! Sooo pretty. Used to wallpaper everything, but haven't done it in years. I MIGHT be tempted to do that again. Wow! I forgot all about Chef Boy-ar-dee pizza....what a product! lol And flying in a glider? I am soooo impressed! Don't know if I could make myself do that! But what an experience that must have been!

  10. Hi Debbie! Your wallpaper is so cute, and I love how it just melts into the decor. Great job!
I had to giggle reading the 'overrated sights', my son lives in Seattle, and my sister in Boston so...I've seen a lot of what's on the list here. I enjoyed them, but I can understand that they aren't like seeing the Smokey Mts. or the Grand Canyon!

You'd be a great speaker for putting up wallpaper, or any home renovation. You are so good at that! I'm a speaker, but I prepare like crazy before I do, not sure what I could pull off without a topic planned. Maybe the joys of grandparenting??
    Blessings,
    Ceil

  11. Wow...so brave to come in for a landing...

Love the new wallpaper and I even liked the old wallpaper. I think wallpaper looks fresh longer than paint. Hopelessly old-fashioned am I! I'm up for a wallpaper tutorial! 🙂

If there were such a thing as sea willows, I'm pretty sure they'd blow. Too funny!

  12. Your bedroom looks amazing, my friend! And I love the wood floors in there. I want to get rid of the carpet in our bedroom and put wood floors in, but convincing my husband is another story :)

Such an enjoyable post and I had to smile about your solo. How I would LOVE to hear you sing especially that song since it's my favorite.

    Love and hugs!

  15. I bet you are an expert on wallpaper! We have a room that a previous owner did a lousy sheetrock job on. I told John we need to cover the walls with a wallpaper similar to what you have chosen. Your room is gorgeous. I got tickled reading about the goof up with "It Is Well." I am forever getting lyrics wrong! lol

  16. Oh, your bedroom looks like a new room. Amazing what a little paint can do. Enjoyable answers!

  17. Your bedroom looks great and I don't mind really subtle wallpaper. It IS making a resurgence-or so they say--whoever THEY are!
I laughed about the pizza. My mother made pizza PIE and used a real PIE CRUST. My dad took one look at and said I don't know what the craze is about pizza. It's awful! lol It was, too. I don't think I had real pizza until I was 17 or 18 years old! I know- I led a sheltered life! xo Diana

  18. NICE floor.
We've had lots of rain also but lots of sun too.
I grew up in NJ close to NY so there was also good pizza around!!

  19. Your bedroom is beautiful! You're brave to do wallpaper!

I don't think I could do a glider, you are a brave woman!

  20. What a lovely transformation, Debby. The new bedroom looks like a very cozy, comfortable retreat. And I do really like the new wallpaper. Very elegant. Would you do the glider again if you had the chance? Not sure I would have done it even in my youth.

  22. Hi there :)

I cracked up at your pizza story. My mom made pizza from scratch one time and I don't know what she did to it, but it smelled so bad, we couldn't eat it. It's the one and only time she made something that didn't turn out great and she's never lived it down lol

Your bedroom looks beautiful! I love wallpaper, but I hate removing it. Of course I don't know anyone that enjoys it ;)

  23. I love your new wallpaper! At first I thought you'd painted the room. I could also speak about wallpapering and taking off old wallpaper, too. Have done a lot of it over the years but now I don't have even a border on the walls. I loved reading your answers!

  24. Wallpaper, huh? I guess if you know how to do it properly it would make sense to try it. My hubby don't like it, so we paint. I've helped my mom take it down. Not.Fun! I'm pretty sure we were both grumbling after that was all done!

Your bedroom is beautiful! Those floors...Love! ( I have that same flooring)

Black pants...Really?! Not me...I can't stand lint and when I wear black I am having a stress attack with what clings to them. Lol.

I've done that a few times when it comes to songs, but like you I remember and catch up to the right words. But isn't it funny how you can still sing word for word to a song from your childhood, but can't remember what you did yesterday? Or is it just me? Ha!

Love reading your hodge podge posts. I've learned so much about you...

    Enjoy your week, Debby!
    Tomorrow's Friday!

    Hugs, Amy

  26. Haha -- sea willows blow! I will probably sing that next time I sing that hymn!! Your room is beautiful, and I love the wallpaper you did.
Oh, and we did the pizza in a box kit too when I was growing up!
The glider experience must have been amazing! xo Deborah

  28. "Black pants be they long or cropped" you are a girl after my own heart! Come to think of it,I believe that's pretty much all I have hanging in my closet other than two pair of black with white polka dots.
I SO ENJOYED this post and you gave me a few chuckles all the way through. :-)
I'm right there with your dad, that pizza did stink of vomit!
When ever I sing "It is well" I will forever remember you and the words "willows blow" oh that is too funny.
Your poor dogs, it's tough being short legged.
Yes, your wall paper looks beautiful, very subtle.
So happy I did not miss this post.

Have a beautiful and blessed day

  30. Love your new bedroom with the wallpaper! You are a brave gal, and I would love to hear your 30 minutes of how to hang wallpaper! I remember helping my mom with it as a kid, but the worst part was taking off the old stuff! Your bedroom looks amazing! And flying that glider, wow, what an experience for you! I hope the rain has ended for you, and that spring is making its due effort! Hugs to you today :)
