Wednesday Medley: God's got this...so let's eat pie!

Hello, my dear friends,

I want to start out by letting you all know how much I've been blessed by your comments.
My heart is overflowing at the outpouring of love and the prayers that are going up on my behalf...
...I have certainly felt them throughout the past week and continue to do so.
There is not one person in this world that could convince me that a bunch of precious girlfriends
from all over the country and beyond, most who have never met face-to-face,
cannot be connected in the ways that many of you have been to me this past week.
You just don't know...BUT, I must tell you!
My hubby, Jim, has been having a very hard time with this...as any of us would.
He wasn't sleeping and for several days just sat quietly, not saying much.
When I told him that I had written about it on my blog last week, he asked if he could read it.
He isn't much of a computer guy so I pulled it up for him.
It seemed like it took him forever to read the post and all of the beautiful comments
so I just left him alone but I know he was sniffling and wiping his eyes the entire time.
He didn't really say much to me afterwards but the following morning when I was in another room,
I heard him talking to Adam on the phone and this is what I heard him say...

"I really feel so much better about everything since I read your mom's blog.
It was mostly because of all of those comments that people wrote...
...and how everyone is encouraging her and praying for her.
I feel a lot more positive and somehow, I just have a peace about it now."

See what y'all did?!

I am amazed at how our wonderful God uses our blogs...possibly in many ways we never know.
I am still a bit unsure of what exactly I'm facing but will soon have some definitive answers...
...I see my oncologist on Friday but no matter what...

...GOD'S GOT THIS!
My dear blogging sister, Cindy,  sent me this bracelet...
...she is wearing one too, until I tell her to take it off. 😉
On the other side is Proverbs 3:5-6...

Trust in the Lord with all your heart and lean not on your own understanding;
in all your ways submit to Him, and He will make your paths straight.
~
So let's get on with the Wednesday Medley, shall we?
Hop over to Terri's blog, copy and paste the questions and answer them on your blog!
It's a lot of fun!

National Pie Day is celebrated annually on January 23rd. (Not to be confused with March 14 which is PI π Day.) National Pie Day was created simply to celebrate the pie.  It is a day for all to bake or cook their favorite pies.  Even more importantly, it is a day set aside for all to enjoy eating pies! The first pies appeared around 9500 BC in the Egyptian Neolithic period or New Stone Age.

1.  Okay, fess up.  Tell us your top three favorite pies, please.  Will you have some pie today?

I have shared photos of the favorite family pie several times before in my posts. I grew up eating black raspberry pie since I had teeth in my mouth and wouldn't you know that I would grow up to marry a man who loved it probably more than I do.

Son #1 was not a fan so much (he preferred apple) but Son #2 was a quick sell and for as long as I can remember, both husband and Son #2 has had a home baked black raspberry birthday pie every single year...plus many more here and there, whenever we get together. Let me just say this, whatever this thing is that's tryin' to kick my butt ain't gonna win! Who's gonna fix them boys their pies??? So since I have to pick the top three, rhubarb (or strawberry rhubarb) would come in as #2 and a close 3rd would be lemon meringue.......or maybe pizza. {smile}  Will I be having any pie today? Only if you consider this cherry cheesecake a pie...

...looks more like a pie than a cake to me! Number 1 son, Aaron, has gotten to be master of making them...from scratch! He made six (yes, six!) over the weekend for a banquet he was attending and he gave one to his dad (this would be Jim's #2 choice). Since I'm feeling rather well today, I just may treat myself to a small sliver...since it's National Pie Day and all. 😁

2.  While we are talking about food... are you a picky eater or are you ready to try almost any new food? What is the worst thing you have ever eaten?

I really am not a picky eater although there are times I wish I was. Unless there is really something strange in the dish, I am usually willing to give it a try. My old fashioned mama would occasionally cook some things that would really gross most people out...beef tongue and heart, pork brains, chicken gizzards...just to name a few. I have tasted them all but they will never show up on my table! I remember one time I was eating at a fancy salad bar in Nashville and I put what I thought were very thin strips of beef on my plate. When I tasted it I nearly fell off my chair and then when I was told they were anchovies, I nearly died and I couldn't get them out of mouth fast enough!  And yes, it was the worst thing I've ever eaten.

3.  Baking could be considered an art as could cooking.  How do you define art?

Anything that one does very well...and the possibilities are endless.

4.  Tell us a really stupid joke that made you laugh, please.
Hmmmm...I can't seem to think of a single one!
5.  January 23rd is also National Handwriting Day. Do you have nice handwriting? Did cursive writing come naturally or did you practice in those double-lined practice books until your fingers hurt?
I used to think my handwriting was nice but anymore, I really have to work at it. I find myself in a hurry and my fingers tend to go faster than my brain, causing misshaped and misspelled words that need correcting. Now, where did I put that White-Out? I do very well remember practicing my cursive on my lined paper and took great pains to get it right. Recently (last year), I wrote this post after I found something I had written for a school project that I gave to my mother. I couldn't believe that I had actually written it with it's exaggerated slant and perfectly shaped letters!
6.  Tell us something random about your week.
Well, random has taken on a whole new meaning in my life these days. Between doctor appointments and different scans and tests, it's been a little CRAY! As I face whatever lies ahead of me, all I have to say is I am so grateful to have you all in my corner!

Much love,

  1. Oh Debby... your first paragraph made me cry. Your poor sweet hubby. I've been keeping you in my prayers and thinking of you. Another rotten thing about being diagnosed with a disease is the waiting to see the doctors. The minutes drag on. Keep us posted.

  2. That intro brings me to tears and prayers, Debby. I agree with Katie, the waiting. That last poster is something I heard years ago and it has stuck with me. God bless you Debby. And please send that black raspberry pie my way.

  4. Oh Debby, I missed your blog post last week so went back and read it. I can't tell you how this breaks my heart for you and your family. This song by Babbie Mason from years ago immediately came to mind. Pull it up when you have time and know that you will be in my prayers until you tell us "Enough!" https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2kaOkmJmxr0

  5. I'm so glad you gave us a little update and we won't let up on praying now. You've been in my prayers every day. I know how worrisome this all is! Please give your precious hubby lots of hugs from all of us. What a sweetheart! Love your bracelet too and the support from everyone! You're special to us my friend! Do you still have the socks I sent you? Wear them to feel all warm and loved! Lots of hugs, Diane

  6. Oh, Debby, we are all so grateful to be in your corner and you are in my prayer journal and I was so grateful to see this update. I cannot even imagine being where you are and your precious husband. Oh, my goodness, what a journey. You will continue in my prayers and praying that this will only be a bump in the road and nothing more. You are loved!

  7. My precious friend, you are truly loved and being bathed in prayer. There isn't anything any sweeter than to know that others are praying for you and lifting you up to our Lord. He has you in the palm of His hand! That is a huge WOW! Got my bracelet on right now and have had several ask me about it. That has given me the opportunity to not only ask them to pray for you but one person I was able to use the bracelet to tell them about OUR JESUS! Okay, since I am trying not to boo-hoo let me see if I can answer the questions.
    1. Okay, fess up. Tell us your top three favorite pies, please. Will you have some pie today?
#1: Cheesecake....well pie or cake? LOL! #2: Lemon lime icebox pie #3: Lemon Meringue

    2. While we are talking about food... are you a picky eater or are you ready to try almost any new food? What is the worst thing you have ever eaten?
Mercy I need to be picky! LOL! I used to be back in my younger days but girl, I like most everything. The older I get the more I like! I like to try new things. I may never eat it again but I do love trying new things. I want to do one of those foodie tours. Marty...meat and tater man all the way! However, I have known him to want to taste of my new dish of food and like it! The only thing that I can think of right now that I really don't care for is those little tiny green peas. Nah...give me a green bean.

    3. Baking could be considered an art as could cooking. How do you define art?
My definition of art in cooking and baking is called, "Cindy's way". I am BAD to not measure. Bad to make up recipes and well, sometimes I actually have created SOMETHING that had to be a ART! Maybe not a pretty piece of art either!

    4. Tell us a really stupid joke that made you laugh, please.
I am like you, can't think of one.

    5. January 23rd is also National Handwriting Day. Do you have nice handwriting? Did cursive writing come naturally or did you practice in those double-lined practice books until your fingers hurt?
My handwriting is awful. I have never had a good handwriting. I am a lefty so needless to say when I was in school the teacher tried very hard to get me to write right handed but to no avail. My mother marched straight to that school and told her that God created me to be left handed and not to try and change me! Well, she should have let her try to change me cause then I might have had pretty handwriting. LOL!
    6. Tell us something random about your week.
Right now I am laughing at something my 7 year old granddaughter said to my 2 1/2 year old granddaughter. She said, "God made the whole world. He made the trees, the beach and the hot tubs!

Love you so much friend. Hugs and blessings, Cindy

  10. Dear Debby - you bless my heart! Your pies sound really good and I would never allow any of those nasty things you mentioned to be on my table, let alone in my mouth! Yikes. I could never eat the liver my mother tried to serve her two anemic kiddos! I absolutely love that your husband was encouraged by the other bloggers' comments. Keep us posted!!

  12. Debby, God has put you on my heart to pray through this last week and I'll ask Him to keep reminding me. How sweet that you overheard your dear hubby explaining to your son on the phone his feelings before and after reading you blog. May God guard his heart and mind as his concerns for you can overwhelm him. May you be in peace, too, as you face whatever you hear from the Oncologist. Hugs to you!

  13. I love your post today and getting to know you better. I will be keeping you in my prayers now that I have met you here. That being said...that black raspberry pie looks marvelous. I never had one before, but I've had plenty of blackberry cobbler...are they the same thing? I'm thinking of the wild blackberries that grow along the roads in the mountains, and other places. That cherry cheesecake is another favorite "pie" as well... yes, I consider it pie...it has a crust, doesn't it? That makes it pie, even if it is a graham cracker crust! LOVE it. Now I want some. May God give you the grace and peace you need as you go through these tests and trials. Just always know that He is with you and that He will never leave you nor forsake you. May He lift you up and give you strength and peace today. Amen.

  16. So....I was having my morning cuppa thinking of you, wondering how you are and sending oodles of thoughts to the Good Lord for you and your family and your beautiful photo popped up on my screen....how wonderful♥ You do make me smile! Isn't it fabulous you and your hubby are in agreement re your favourite pie. Speaking of pies how would a chicken gizzard pie go down?? Not well I should think. Wish I was a picky eater too, my figure would love me if I was. Love the Grace, Mercy.......quote; encapsulates everything really. So lovely to see your beautiful face. I love the gift of your bracelet.....yes indeed God certainly has got 'this'. Much love and many hugs to you, my lovely friend. Will be thinking of you especially on Friday.♥

  17. You've been on my heart and held up before the throne room of heaven, Debby, and as I walked today I wondered if you would have an update. How glad I was to read that the Lord is giving not just you but your husband peace as well, and through a most unlikely event, a blog post! How awesome is that! My husband is always amazed at the outpouring of love I've received through my blog, and it is just so incredible to see! I love the bracelet sweet Cindy sent you, and how awesome that she is wearing one too! This blogging community is just a beautiful thing and I am continually thankful for the blessings it has brought into my life, and what a testimony of how it has blessed your life too! I continue in prayer about your situation, as I walk each day, I bring you before the Lord, and I feel peace that all is well, in Him. Now those blackberry pies, dear Lord have mercy, I might need to run down to the grocery store, and buy a bag of frozen berries to make one, it looks sooo good! And the cherry cheesecake pie, oh my! Always enjoy your Wednesday medley! Blessings, hugs and prayers!

  19. Oh Debby, you are on my mind and in my prayers daily. I agree that blogging and even FaceBook can help us to face the trials of life. The friends on the internet are as valuable to me as the ones I can sit and have coffee or tea with. One such friend posted the following verse and I want to share it with you. DO NOT QUIT! Somebody is praying for you and you will make it through this. Hugs to you my friend.

  23. You are just the sweetest little thing!
I loved that photo of you!
Oh Debby, I'm so glad you shared about your husband's worry because that allows us to pray even more specifically, but seeing how he felt after reading your post and comments was precious. God in His goodness!
You are certainly covered in prayer and yes, God has this.

National Pie Day, how delicious! Of all the things I could bake I enjoy pastries the most and my husband will take a pie over anything else.
As always, I enjoyed learning just a little more about you. :)

Have a most wonderful and blessed day ♡

  25. Debbie we are praying for a GOOD report, but whatever the doc says you and hubbie know most surely that God and His friends care deeply about you and care enough to pray for you.
I suspect God has many GREAT things up ahead for you both and that you will go forward as a United in heart team, greatly strengthened by this whole testing time.
    Many blessings from New Zealand.
    Mary.

  26. Oh, sweet friend! You are perpetually on my mind and heart, and how I pray for you! I KNOW God's got this. He is your Father, and you are His precious daughter, and He is going to see you through. It touched me so deeply to read of how your dear husband read the blog comments and found hope and peace there. This is one tight-knit community of believers, and even though we have never met each other in person, the bond is DEEP and tight and strong. And, the thing is, GOD, Himself is on our side as we speak His truth on these blog pages and send out the thoughts He places on our hearts to the whole, wide world. HE has orchestrated our paths and allowed all of us to intersect and connect, and satan cannot come close to challenging the strength in our Redeemer and in His love for us and our love for one another. SO, by God's grace, you are going to be okay, my dear friend. I just feel with all my heart that God is going to do something so big and powerful for you and your dear husband, and all of us are going to have to stand back and say, "LOOK WHAT GOD JUST DID!!!!" I speak peace and healing and good health to you today, in the mighty name of our Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ. No matter what, I am expecting the end result of this trial to be God-glorifying. As we all are uniting to lift you and carry you to the throne, so we will unite in singing praises to God, when HE does what none of us have the power to do. Sending much love and many hugs your way today!!!
