Mum's the Word

Is there anything that says "fall" better than a beautiful chrysanthemum?
I found a couple of beauties over the weekend and they were quite a bargain...
...two for $10...and they are quite a good size!

My mom always planted her mums in the ground and they would bloom every year.
I have never really had a green thumb like her, sorry to say.
I got them through the fall season and ended up throwing them out after the blooms were gone.

I bought them at a small farm store in Fancy Gap...they had so many to choose from.
Wonderful pumpkins too...also two large ones for $10...a bargain I thought!

I knew I would be bringing them back to enjoy at our home in NC but just for fun...
...played around with them a bit with the mountain view in the background...

...and on the porch of the cabin.

Aren't they gorgeous?

I could just look at them all day :)

Have a great week!

  8. Lovely vignettes with your mums ! And when they are done, just plant them...seriously, I have done that for the last two years and mine came back...give it a try. I was so pleased this year to see mine doubled in size! :)

  9. Those are beautiful colors, Debby, and the set up you did on the cabin steps looks like a postcard! I bought and planted some mums this weekend. I put them in pots, and they will usually last and re-bloom until mid-August here in the desert. Usually they just can't take the intense heat any longer and succumb :(. I just keep trying because they are so very pretty!

  18. OMGoodness, your pictures are magazine worthy!!!! Just beautiful. I envy you having a home in the mountains of NC. That is one of my favorite places. I love mums too and have never planted them because we used to live in the woods. Now that we are in this house with FULL sun, I may try it:)

  21. Yes, they are simply gorgeous! God's handiwork, amazing! I love the look of mums. I planted them in the ground one year. They did fairly well, but I don't have ideal environment for them.

FYI, my blog address has changed. I'm already having a few regrets, but I hope I don't lose touch with my blogging friends who may have trouble finding me now.

    The new address is href="http://dayleallenshockley.blogspot.com/"

    1. Thank you, Dayle...I love just looking them next to the pumpkins :) I don't think they will do well in our ground here in NC either...hard, rocky, red clay...do you have that in TX? Thanks you giving the update on your new blog address. I don't think it has kept me from getting updates from you. I follow you through email and GFC and bloglovin' so I think I'm good. I really appreciate your letting me know :) Hope you are having fun in the RV too!

  22. Hi Debby! I love the arrangement in both places, so I know it will look fabulous at your house too. The colors really compliment each other.

And what a price too! The mum buckets I buy are at least $10, and sometimes $20 a piece. You did very well! And I love the last montage of pictures. So bright...So Fall!
Thank you for your visit too!

  27. Debby, yes there is nothing quite like Mums for Fall! I absolutely love the orange and purple color combo. I wanted a purple one for my porch, but there were not any decent plants left. I settled for rusty red and orange. I did learn a trick about Mums a few years ago. If you plant them in your garden cut them back to their base from Spring until July 4th. After that let them grow. That way they will not bloom before Fall. Thanks for sharing with SYC.
    hugs,
    Jann
