...for amber waves of grain...

AMERICA, THE BEAUTIFUL
~by Katharine Lee Bates – 1913

O beautiful for spacious skies,
For amber waves of grain,
For purple mountain majesties
Above the fruited plain!
America! America! God shed His grace on thee,
And crown thy good with brotherhood
From sea to shining sea!

O beautiful for pilgrim feet,
Whose stern impassion’d stress
A thoroughfare for freedom beat
Across the wilderness!
America! America! God mend thine ev’ry flaw,
Confirm thy soul in self-control,
Thy liberty in law!

O beautiful for heroes proved In liberating strife,
Who more than self their country loved,
And mercy more than life!
America! America! May God thy gold refine
Till all success be nobleness,
And ev’ry gain divine!

O Beautiful for patriot dream
That sees beyond the years
Thine alabaster cities gleam,
Undimmed by human tears!
America! America! God shed His grace on thee,
And crown thy good with brotherhood
From sea to shining sea!
~

Wishing all of my friends in the USA
a most blessed
Independence Day!

  6. This song was one of my Grandma Betty's favorites {she was Canadian}. Thank you for sharing these beautiful words. And your photo is stunning!

  7. Hi Debby! I hope you had a great 4th celebration! And I wanted to ask you about sunflower seeds. You recently had a post on the sunflower, and I was wondering if you could suggest a good place to get quality sunflower seeds? I live in the upper midwest, so I know it would have to on-line, or I'd be happy to arrange something with you if you could pick some up for me? Email me sometime, ok?
    Blessings,
    Ceil

  11. The pastor at the church my daughter and family attends is doing a series on the Old Hymns and the history behind them. I am intersted in knowing the history behind this song. I think I'll google it. Again, you photography is beautiful!
