I am getting old not as young as I used to be (ouch... that was painful)
and for me having to learn something this big, this huge...this EPIC...
...is making me feel like a first-grader going to college.

Any of you who work in the healthcare field possibly know what I'm talking about.
Epic Systems is like the "big brother" of electronic healthcare management...
and it's pretty much taking over the world of medicine.

I just want to know what happens when the whole system goes down...
...and you know it will...or it gets hacked...what then??
Oh well...that's not my responsibility, now it is?

If I could, I would retire tomorrow...and I'm hardly kidding.
That beautiful little meadow in Haywood Hollow is looking really good about now.
But for the next couple of years, I guess I gotta do what I gotta do.

in the event that I should become MIA for a little while.

Oh, Debby ... I do detest epic changes in the workplace. I'm glad I don't have to deal with such things, and, yes, I was in the healthcare industry, so I can only imagine what's going on. I'll say a prayer that you don't get swallowed up in it all.

Change like that is epic for sure but I'm sure you'll catch on quickly and everything will go smoothly in the transition. And you will have a satisfaction in knowing that you learned and accomplished the new 'system'. The photos you chose for this post are amazing!! Those men in that huge tree? Incredible. Change is hard to except sometimes....technology is taking over and it can be scary. Slow and easy does it and you'll be a pro in no time.

ReplyDeleteLet us hope that the mental calisthentics will keep you young. I have nothing and I mean nothing but comtempt and scorn for much of what goes on in the medical world. No doctors, nurses who are overworked, dangerous conditions, medications not available, substandard care, and crap like this. We have become a third world country with these new guidelines. Pure baloney and, of course, that's the nice way of saying it.

ReplyDeleteLiving only about 35 miles from the actual Epic Systems campus, when I saw your title, my thoughts actually went right there. Living so close, we hear about Epic a lot, so that word sort of has a new meaning when I hear it now.
ReplyDeleteHaving worked as a Trainer for a health insurance company for 20 years, I actually DID retire just as we were about to transition to an Epic Systems adaptation. I do have to say that I heard it went well, and people working with the system don't have anything bad to say about it. But,,,,, I feel your pain. I think as we get older, these system changes and implementations become more daunting. I hope your experience will be a good and successful one.

ReplyDeleteI can some what feel your frustrations as I too was once in the health care field and about the time I went through my inner ear and balance issues many new changes were taking place in our office, and abroad, changes that I just wasn't ready to embrace, but knew I had no choice as they were coming whether Debbie liked it or not.
God intervened for me though, (that is a story of its ownn) and all to God's glory by the way.
As some say "it is what it is" and we press onward looking to Jesus knowing that He holds the whole world and all that is going on in His hands.
Rest there Debby, for I believe He has great things ahead for you, why, maybe it is in that gorgeous, and I mean gorgeous Haywood Hollow. I took a little detour before commenting to visit your dream, oh I could see the beauty with you. Amazing place!!
My prayers will be with you as you travel down this road hand in hand with your Precious Savior.

Just as it takes our bodies much longer to heal from illnesses as we get older, so it goes with learning new things....just put your "patient pants" on and take it one day at a time. Don't forget to be kind to yourself during this time and know that you have a lot of friends pulling for you.....we've got your back!
