Sorry...I'm still learning...

Oh my goodness! I've been doing it all wrong!

I have been blogging for about 10 months and found this out purely by accident.
Yesterday, I read somehwere about the right way that we should respond to comments.
So...I started doing some digging...about blog etiquette.

I so appreciate every sweet comment that my blogging buddies leave me...
...and I like to respond back...and I have for nearly every one of them...
...not all, but close!

Here's the problem...
...I have been hitting the "reply" button on my blog and posting it there...
...instead of replying to the email!

I guess my confusion came when I saw a commenters with "noreply" in their email heading.
I was under the assumption that by hitting reply on my blog comment section,
that my comment would automatically go back to that person's email.

No??? I guess not.

Was I seriously directing you back to my blog to read it??
Oh, I'm so embarassed...all of those replies...
I guess I have probably replied back to about 80% or more of my commenters that way.

So, it seems I still have a few things to learn about this blogging business.
I am apologizing now if you did not receive my replies back for all of these months.

I would appreciate some input from y'all...
...and if you comment, I promise I will respond back...
...the RIGHT way!

Do you still love me????

  1. I've never been quite sure how to respond to the bloggers who don't show an email address either or how to post a reply directly to the comment that was made. It can be rather confusing.

  2. I admire those who respond to each comment via email. I seldom do. What I do is return the visit by commenting at the commenter's blog. There's so much to learn for all of us. Keeps it interesting. (While many bloggers do not know that they are "no-reply" bloggers, there are a number who are purposely using that feature for privacy concerns.)

  3. I'm probably one of those no-reply bloggers, as I don't have an email attached to my blog. But here's the thing - I sorta remember which bloggers reply to comments, and so I wander back to see what they've had to say. I like Vee's idea of returning the visit. I do that a lot, too.

And, I will always love you no matter what you do (or don't do) here in Blog Land. For it is your beautiful photos, and your beautiful heart that brings me back over and over again!

    GOD BLESS!

  4. It takes a while to figure out how to manage replies, so don't sweat it. I only put a reply on the post itself if I need to clarify something for other commenters. Otherwise, I respond directly back to the commenter (if they have their e-mail set up for it). If you put a reply on your post to someone, they would never see it unless they come back to read it online. There are no notifications.

  5. I get emails from you and a few others but I don't know why. I don't know how my settings are set. Funny:) We're all learning together. I don't even know if I"m supposed to respond to the emails, but I like to because I like to get to know my friendly bloggers. Like you! I wonder sometimes if I talk too much and if my friends would like for me to just leave them alone. If they don't respond, I don't mind. It's just what I like to do. We'll figure it all out.

  6. I don't reply to those bloggers who don't have an email attached to the blog.I don't even reply to all others, just the occasional one.So whatever you choose to do is up to you. I will still be reading your blog and leaving comments.

  7. You are so cute :o) I think it is kinda funny.... But I can't go back on someones blog to read there reply, I like what Vee said! And you DO NOT have to reply to them all (really)...
We are all busy and I think just going to their blog and saying hi is great! And sometimes they never come back again and others you become good friends with!
Happy Easter sweet friend xo Roxy

  8. Oh my, I don't usually reply to a comment unless it is sort of a conversation and then I do it by email, or in the case of one no reply person, I do it by PM on FB! How's that for figuring a way out. I totally forgot about the fact that bloggers will comment back in their comment section. I may have missed some conversations. Well, I should check back more often but don't really have the time, so I guess I prefer an email back. Now I'm confused but that's OK!

  9. I'm seeing what others are saying....with a bit of relief. I don't respond to comments unless someone asks me something specific and a lot of time, not even then. (I could do better on that!) I think when someone comments on my blog.....the nicest thing for me to do is visit them and comment on their blog. That's how I've always handled it and no one has complained. I still love you but does anyone love me? heeheehee! Sweet hugs, Diane

  10. I will always love you....:) And I actually do both.....email the ones with email and try to respond on the post if they don't have email. But I'm getting a little lazy on responding to them all. I will also go to their blog and leave a comment sometimes. I probably do all three with you because I love you so.....:) Don't sweat it!

  11. Well we learn all the time. I didn't realize there were any rules on what you should or shouldn't do - beyond common courtesy of course. I try to visit those who have commented on my blog and comment back but It doesn't always happen. I think we're always learning.
But I always think that if you don't have something nice to say you're better saying nothing.

    blessings,
    Diana

  12. I am cramped for time so don't reply to those who comment on my blog, but I do try to visit all my readers regularly and leave a comment. I enjoy all my blogger friends and enjoy keeping up with them. Don't worry about replying to me, but I love to have you visit my blog.

  13. As I read this post I cannot help but giggle. :) WOW... having just started a blog I am really in the dark. I do reply to those who have e-mail, I believe I have replied to a "no reply" but I understand they will not get it, so I stopped that. :) Now I'm not real sure about the reply on the comments? I must check that out LOL.
Visiting is one area I am very slow at, but I am working real hard to change in that area. TIME, just need a little more time in my days.
I appreciated this informative post Debby.
    Easter blessings to you!

  14. Hmmm...I have been blogging for 4.5 years, and I am still learning! Sometimes I wonder who makes up all these rules anyway. :)

As many of your other commenters, I don't respond to every comment on my blog. I simply don't have the time. But I do try to comment on the commenters' blogs from time to time. Sometimes I reply in an email, but that is not the norm. Maybe I am doing it all wrong!

I hope I haven't offended any readers! Certainly, I am not offended with you!

  15. Hi Debby! After your comment on FB I had to wander over and check out your blogpost. Oh my, it seems that I am as much in the dark as you were. I hardly know what you are talking about! I respond to almost every comment I receive on the blog. I don't think I knew there was another way?
Would you email me at ceil@ceilryan.com and explain this to me? I would really appreciate it!
Did you see that Stephanie is opening enrollment for the mug exchange? I thought you'd want to know.
    Easter Blessings,
    Ceil
PS You have never, nor would you ever, offend me.

  16. My dear, sweet Debby Ray, you make me smile :) Blogging etiquette...what's next? I reply to my commenters through email because I don't always get a chance to visit every blog and if they are a no-reply commenter than I will visit their blog (if they have one) and reply there. I used to reply back on my blog, but found out that not everyone thinks to come back and read it there.

I have never been offended by you and yes, I still love you :) Your blog is an inspiration and source of wisdom and beauty, a place I love to visit. Hugs to you!

  17. Sweet Debby Ray, I still love you! I reply to emails when someone asks me a question that I need to answer, otherwise I repay the visit and comment on their post.
    Blessings,
    Cindy
