HAPPY FIRST DAY OF JUNE!
May is nothing but a memory as we make our way into the halfway point of 2016.
Can you believe it??
~
Our beautiful local strawberries are just faint memories as well.
The ones in the grocery store just don't compare.
What is more beautiful than a juicy, red, ripe strawberry?
~
And since this is Hodgepodge, I guess anything goes, right?
So I'm sharing some photos of this lovely specimen.

And since this is Hodgepodge, I guess anything goes, right?
So I'm sharing some photos of this lovely specimen.
I was walking down the driveway one evening with the dogs and it fell out of the tree on my head.
I had lived here almost 20 years before I knew what they were.
It wasn't until I googled it (of course) that I discovered it was a bloom from a tulip poplar tree.
And if you know anything about me at all,
you surely shouldn't be surprised at all that I did this with it.
~
So what else does one add to a hodgepodge post?
How about a goat, a rainbow and a fence...all in one photo.
So on to the Memorial Day weekend...
The highlight, other than having a 4-day weekend, was a visit from my Tennessee bunch!
Olivia was on a mission to get her ears pierced now that she will be in the second grade next year.
That was how old her mommy was when got hers pierced and she was ready!
She requested that Mawmaw (that's me) be present during the event...so off we went.
It all happened so fast, she didn't even have time to flinch!
She picked out the cutest earrings, don't you think?
~
And what's a Memorial Day holiday without a little red, white and blue dessert?
Okay...let's get on to the Hodgepodge questions, shall we?
~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~
1. Tell us about one fun thing on your June calendar.
Well, I would if I could...but as of this moment, I have absolutely no plans to do anything fun.
Of course, my idea of fun may be traipsing through a field of milkweed, chasing butterflies.
As a matter of fact, I do think I noticed some blooming a few days ago...
...so I just may be having some fun this weekend :)
2. How careful are you in the sun? Do you tan or burn? Do you make it a point to see the dermatologist every year?
I don't spend a lot of time in the sun but when I do, I'm probably not as careful as I should be.
I usually burn at first then tan (a little) but never get to that desirable golden color.
I have never seen a dermatologist...shame on me.
3. Describe a time when you wanted to 'throw in the towel'?
I had to think hard on this one and honestly, I don't know that I ever have had those feelings.
I am an eternal optimist and even though there have been MANY, MANY storms,
nothing has ever caused me to lose all hope.
Thank you, Jesus.
4. What's a song you love that has a day of the week in the title or lyrics?
I love the Carpenter's music so it would probably be "Rainy Days and Mondays"...
...even though most of my Mondays are usually no worse than any other day of the week,
and I really do like rainy days...as long as they don't go on and on.
5. Are you a fan of berries? Which one's your favorite? What's the most recent berry dish you've eaten? Which blueberry breakfast food appeals to you most-blueberry pancakes, blueberry yogurt, or a blueberry muffin?
Berries are probably my favorite fruits and I'd say raspberries would be at the top of my list.
I have never made Jim or Adam a birthday cake...they get PIE...black raspberry to be precise.
Black raspberries don't grow well around here so we try to get them when we visit Ohio or Virginia.

Since Adam was here this weekend and since we will not see him on his birthday in July,
he got his birthday pie a few days ago :)
Although I do love a good blueberry muffin, Cracker Barrel's blueberry pancakes are the bomb...
...for breakfast or just about any time you have a hankerin'!
6. What's something you want to do before your next birthday?
I am always setting weight-loss goals and never making them happen.
Shall I try again???
Let me just say that I am blessed in so many ways, beyond anything I could ever deserve.
One of those blessings is this community of bloggers that I have been a part of for almost 3 years.
I truly appreciate each one of you and consider you my friends.
Thank you for your encouragement and prayers!
8. Insert your own random thought here.
My thoughts throughout the week have been on our precious blogging sister, Vee.
It kind of amazes me that I can feel such sadness for someone I've never met.
As I mentioned above, our blogs really do connect us to each other's hearts and lives.
May she continue to draw comfort and strength through our Heavenly Father.

I just can't believe it is June ... the days and months go by so quickly.
ReplyDeleteI do love those earrings, I do love all your photo's too ... a lovely selection.
I never knew that June 1st is say something nice day - perhaps we should adopt that as every day!
I wish you a fabulous month of June ... take care
All the best Jan
Your granddaughter's earrings are adorable and she is a sweet little young lady. Wow! on the rainbow shot - amazing! I do love the fresh berries, peaches etc. during the summer. Like you, I treasure my blog friends. My heart is so sad for Vee.
ReplyDeleteTake care and have a nice evening.
Sher really does look adorable. Tell her I'm going to look for some of those cute earrings now too. (I have 2 holes in each ear...one just for studs.) The strawberries, blueberries and peaches are so wonderful right now...all so sweet and yummy. But I know what you mean. I feel like John was a special blog friend too and we've lost him. It has made me feel incredibly sad. Sweet hugs, Diane
ReplyDeleteI too am so saddened by the passing of John. I had the pleasure of meeting both of them back in 2009.
ReplyDeleteThat is a perfect strawberry.
It's hard to believe you've only been blogging 3 years, it seems like I've known you longer, or maybe because you're the kind of person one "feels at home with." I enjoyed your hodgepodge.
ReplyDeleteI really enjoyed each picture and your comments.I see that you and I think so much alike in many ways.I too would have photographed that flower from all angles.
ReplyDeleteA fun hodgepodge, with a bit of sadness. Yes, I've been thinking about Vee during these days and praying for comfort. Although we've never met, I feel like I know her.
ReplyDeleteThe tulip poplar tree flower/cone/fruit is amazing!
My heart goes to Vee, I can't imagine the pain, she has certainly been in my prayers. Your Grandaughter looks wonderful in those cute little earrings, a wonderful moment to look back on. Take care.
ReplyDeleteHello Debby, happy month of June to you. Your granddaughter looks pretty with her new earrings. I like the tulip poplar blooms we have some around here too. I am sorry to hear about Vee's loss. My prayers go out to her and her family.
ReplyDeleteThanks for joining the HP this week! I love the idea of blueberry pancakes, but they're so heavy I just can't eat them anymore. My hubs always orders them when we have breakfast out and a bite is just enough for me. I'm sorry to read about Vee's loss. Yes our blogs do connect us in the most extraordinary ways. Take care.
ReplyDeleteNo, seriously, how can it be June already?

I guess there are worse things that could fall out of a tree and hit you on the head. :) It's so pretty! And that rainbow—what a blessing to see!
ReplyDeleteWhat a fun little post. I must say that bloom from the tree is very unique. And its pretty too! Is that your goat or you just taking random photos? ;)
ReplyDeleteMy hubby brought home a pig a few weeks back and shell be having piglets soon. Oh the joys of our little farm we are creating. Hmmm...a birthday pie instead of a cake. Yes, I like that idea! My sons is coming up next month and he loves fruit! Lightbulb! I think I'll make him a pie. Thanks Debby...great idea!
Your grand daughter looks beautiful with those darling earrings.
All is well here, just enjoying summer, taking pictures and camping!
Thinking of you....
Amy
This reminds me, I have strawberries to clean! Not that I could forget them, there's just a lot on the list today. And I can't believe it's June already! Pretty earrings on a lovely young lady. How nice to be included in her adventure. I love that tulip tree blossom! Enjoyed your Hodgepodge, my song is "Friday on My Mind" from the Easybeats. Do you remember that one?

ReplyDeleteDebby, it's so nice that you got to see your family from Tennessee. Olivia got her ears pierced!! I just got mine re-pierced, and it was an experience at my age. Your flower pictures are just gorgeous.
ReplyDeleteI wanted to thank you for your comment on my post today. It was such a special one and it meant a lot to me.
Your pictures delight me in every way.
~Sheri
by the way, "Rainy days and Mondays" is a classic, and I like it too. :)
Yes, our hearts go out to dear Vee . . .
ReplyDeleteWhat a perfect strawberry, and an adorable little girl. A girl after my own heart -- she loves her some bling!
I enjoy the hodgepodge posts, and getting to know you better. We love our berry pies here, too.
Enjoy chasing those butterflies, my friend. xo Deborah
From one North Carolinian to another - Good morning and Happy Friday! Gosh, where has the year gone so far? June already?? I am missing the strawberries - they were great this year. I will come back to visit your blog again soon!
ReplyDeleteThanks for your visit and have a great weekend :)
DeleteSO VERY CUTE with her newly pierced ears and earrings. What a little beauty!
ReplyDeleteI enjoyed reading your hodgepodge this morning!
ReplyDeleteNice to have a visit from your Tennessee family! Your little granddaughter is darling...what fun that you were included on the ear-piercing rite of passage.
