It's going to be a white Wednesday here in central NC...
...I'm so excited that we are expecting to get several inches of SNOW today!
I know...I can see all of you out there snickering and shaking your heads at me.
I understand that many of have had enough so just humor me, okay?
It's a snow day for me even though it's just started.
And of course it's also time for Joyce's weekly Hodgepodge...
...where she asks the questions and we answer them on our blogs.
Here we go....

Here we go....
1. What keeps you blogging?
I know some of you have been at this a very long time...it will be 5 years for me this June...it is still kinda hard for me to believe. I have said this before but I never, ever thought it was possible to form relationships with those I have never met face to face. My #1 reason that I have continued is because I truly feel like my life has been enriched by "meeting" so many wonderful friends... kindred spirits even, over the years. We have prayed for and encouraged one another and shared our heartaches and joys. Blogging has truly been a blessing. These days, I seem to be finding a way to intermingle what's going on with me mostly with my weekly Hodgepodge posts. Blogging has also become a way to keep record of what's going on with me...a bit of a journal, so to speak. There are times when I am trying to remember when I did this or that...or whatever...and I find myself going to my blog archives where I know it is documented. And sometimes when I feel a bit down or discouraged, I will go back and read some of my older posts to be reminded just how good God has been to me, not that that I would ever forget, but there is just something about going back and reviewing it...kind of like reading your diary. Does anyone else do that?
2. Some people like to travel in the winter months. Do you enjoy the beach in winter? According to Southern Living the best U.S. beach towns to visit this winter are-St Simons Island (Georgia), Hilton Head (South Carolina), Bald Head Island (North Carolina), Seaside (Florida), Bay St. Louis (Mississippi), Cape San Blas (Florida), South Padre Island (Texas), Folly Beach (South Carolina), Chincoteague (Virginia), Duck Key (Florida), Nags Head (North Carolina), and Fairhope (Alabama)
Although I've never been, I think I would enjoy the beach even in the winter. A couple of weeks ago when we had that super cold spell, the beach closest to me that we go to most often, Kure Beach, had snow and ice. Here are a couple of photos I found online. I only wish I had been there to take my own photos.

Have you been to any of the towns listed (in any season)? Which on the list appeals to you most this winter?
Out of this list, Bald Head Island has been at the top but I have yet to go there. I still hope that there might be a chance before we leave NC. I was just thinking the other day how much I will miss having the beach only a couple of hours away after we move to TN...but I will have the beautiful countryside in it's place. I have been to Seaside in Florida a couple of times...the first time was when the community was just being built back in the late 80's I'd say, before the crowds of people took over and spoiled the beautiful seascape. I have photos in an old album somewhere of pastel and brightly colored pristine homes scattered across the edge of the unspoiled coastline...now, you are lucky if you can catch a glimpse of it. When we were there a few years back, I was able to make my way past the cars and people to get a shot of the beach.
There are really too many to name them all but a few from the 60's come to mind..."Young Girl" by Gary Puckett and the Union Gap, "Wild Thing" by the Troggs, "Light My Fire" by the Doors ...the list could go on and on...these are just the ones that popped into head. I am not embarrassed that I still know them, that's just the way my mind works when it comes to popular songs. Today I mostly listen to contemporary Christian/Praise & Worship music or soft instrumentals when I don't want any lyrics. I can also attest to the fact that I have memorized many of the words to them as well. The thing is about these old songs I've mentioned is this...I haven't heard them, sung them or thought of them for a very long time...but now they will be playing in my head for the next few days... at least. Thanks a lot, Joyce! 😒
4. When you were a kid what's something you thought would be fantastic as an adult, but now that you're an adult you realize it's not all that fantastic?
I had so many bosses when I was a kid. Being the baby of the family and having so many people telling me what to do really got under my skin at times. There was a time when I couldn't wait to get out from under my parent's roof and when I did at 18 or 19, it didn't take too long to realize that it wasn't all it was cracked up to be....at least the situation that I found myself in. I played and partied for a little while but it wasn't long before I was asking to move back home. I thank God that He kept me safe when I was doing a lot of stupid things and that He let me get a little taste of a lifestyle that I didn't really want. Lessons learned.
5. Share a quote you hope will inspire you in 2018.
Hmmm....I think it sounds like a great day to make some soup and snow cream for dessert.
😋
Enjoyed your post today. Words of wisdom. And boy don't I remember telling my Mom I couldn't wait to grow up and only have me as a boss----she laughed and laughed.
ReplyDeleteI am so grateful that I have known you through blogging! I love your photos, your kind comments and encouraging faith. Hodgepodge is a lovely way for you to journal and I really enjoy reading your thoughts!
ReplyDeleteGreat quote!! Hope you have a wonderful, warm week, Debby!!
ReplyDeleteThe snow is so pretty. My youngest daughter and her little family have been in Tennessee since last Thursday and due to come home today. They have had some snow and praying this morning that the roads clear up enough they can start to head home. Pray too please for safety. I got some precious cargo there. Now to hodgepodge with you today.
ReplyDelete1. What keeps you blogging?
Well, I only seem to have time to blog once a week but that works for me. The reason I started blogging was as you said, my own personal diary so to speak. I journal so blogging seemed to be easy as it allowed me to share my personal life as well as learn new things. It also gave me the freedom to express, share, make new friends, kindred spirits, and get to know so many lovely bloggers that I have never seen and yet so very close too. We live in a world that it seems everyone is so very busy that even your family members at times has no clue what goes on in your life. Not even your circle of friends know at times. We all are guilty of busyness but with blogging it gives me a way to share with someone.

I like the beach most anytime. I don't go as often as I would like. Summer does seem to be our beach time for our family as we try to go as a family to the beach for a week together. And me and girls and grands try to go a couple of times during the summer. One year though Marty and I rented a small cottage on the beach for 3 days and it was September. Cool in the mornings and I loved it. Of course it did get hot during the day but those cool mornings was wonderful and especially watching the sun come up.I've been to St Simons Island beach several times and was right in the location of Folly Beach in Charleston but we didn't go.

Chincoteague (Virginia) Sounds interesting.
3. What's a song you're embarrassed to know all the lyrics to? Are you really embarrassed or do just think you should be?
LOL! I have several that come to mind and the one coming to mind right now is Close to you by the Carpenters.
4. When you were a kid what's something you thought would be fantastic as an adult, but now that you're an adult you realize it's not all that fantastic?
Too many things to name that came to LIFE as an adult but one was driving where I wanted too and when I wanted too. YEP, glad I can drive but hated driving new places, trying to figure out where to park and all that good stuff. And...I am about as bad now!
5. Share a quote you hope will inspire you in 2018.
My life motto quote! If we do what is right God will take care of what is wrong.
6. Insert your own random thought here.
Praying for my family traveling home from Tennessee today.
I also enjoy your hodgepodge. Hugs and blessings, Cindy
Loved your answer to #1 and feel much the same about blogging. Yes, I do occasionally go back and look at older posts and I am always so encouraged to think about all that God has brought me through and how He has enabled me to keep growing in my relationship with Him.
ReplyDeleteYour quote was absolutely wonderful. It's very much like something D.L. Moody once said: “If our circumstances find us in God, we shall find God in all our circumstances.”
It's snowing here, too!
Good snowy day to you dear Debby! I was nodding my head as I read your answers, especially number one. Glad your parents welcomed you back home! I often thank God for protecting me through the "stupid years". :) Good quote. Enjoy your soup and snow cream. Make sure that snow is white!!
ReplyDeleteSoup? 👍🏼 Snow cream? 👎🏼 😉
ReplyDeleteHave a fun snow day however you spend it. I’ll be spending some of mine cleaning up the driveway and praying for the plow to come.
Loved your list of songs...I don’t have to admit embarrassment because I don’t remember all the words. 🙃
I like the reason you blog, but most especially, I just appreciate that you do!
I enjoyed reading about your reason to keep on blogging.I too, have made so many wonderful friends on the blog that I feel like I can't quit now.
ReplyDeleteYou're probably still getting snow. We watched the weather channel for a bit and called my mother in law in NC to check on her. She had about 6 inches! Stay warm....sing those great songs and enjoy your soup! Hugs!
ReplyDeleteEnjoyed all your answers and love, love that quote! I'm so glad to have met you through our blogs!
ReplyDeleteI love that last quote!
ReplyDeleteWe have had a sprinkling of snow too but whilst I love its beauty I am always glad when it is gone. Loved the last quote.
ReplyDeleteOh, wow...I don't blame you for being excited about the snow! I wish we would get some here. :) I love the winter time! And, I totally agree about the soup...I just laid out everything to make chili later today! Enjoy your snow day, sweet friend, and may God bless you always!
ReplyDeleteThat's a good quote. You expressed well why you continue blogging and I would echo that reason. It really is amazing isn't it. It's amazing how we remember words to songs from years ago. I'm that way with the old hymns too. It's the melody, I think, that keeps them in our heads. I don't do as well memorizing today. Good post!
ReplyDeleteI adore your comments about a "snow day!" Here in AZ, we think much the same way about "rain days." No kidding....the news channels are all warning people to drive safe and be cautious. Our streets and freeways can get very slippery from all of the oil buildup, but it still makes me giggle when I hear all the warnings. Of course, we always have people who do not heed the warning of flash floods and end up having to be rescued.
ReplyDeleteI'm totally with you about your reasons for continuing to blog. I'm going on 8 years blogging, and it has truly been a blessing. Many bloggers (like you) have become good friends, and that is priceless!
Enjoy your snow day!
Warm hugs, Carol
Oh, sweet friend, what a blessing to visit you! I have great missed your posts as you always bring a smile to my face with your words and pictures.
ReplyDeleteWow, 5 years of blogging in June! I am ever so glad you started your blog because I was able to "meet" you. You have been such a precious blessing in my life and it's an honor to call you "friend."
Thinking of you! Love and hugs sent your way!
I feel the same way about blogging as you do and I'm happy you are still blogging because I love your posts and photos and that you are a blogging friend! Have a nice weekend...hope you got some snow. Ours is almost gone since the temps have warmed up.
ReplyDeleteBlogging truly has brought so much beauty into my life, and the precious friendships of other like-minded ladies has been such a blessing! I am so thankful our paths crossed in blogland! :) I always enjoy your hodgepodge, you share such fun memories and thoughts! I loved the picture of the snowman built on the beach, too funny! I hope you enjoyed the snow day that you had, and that soup and snow cream sounds pretty good :) Blessings and hugs to you dear friend!
ReplyDeleteLove that saying about seeing God's hand in everything!
