Lost Among the Sunflowers

I was heading home from the city just east of us (that I rarely visit) when I saw them.
They were on the other side of the highway so I hadn't noticed them at first.
I think every single one of us can say that we love sunflowers, am I right?
But when there's a whole field of them, well, that's just a glorious treat for the eyes.
Once I discovered how to access the field I went back, cameras in tow.
I stepped further and further into the maize of golden beauties until that's all I could see.
I snapped and then snapped some more...
I was all alone, lost in a world where nothing but the sky and sunflowers existed.
Oh...and bees.
We can't forget about the bees.
And it was at that moment when I felt the first drop... had started to rain.....oh great!
I knew I had to make a mad dash for it if I didn't want soggy cameras.
My car was............right
...where was my car, anyway??
Of course, I had lost all sense of direction, being up to my eyeballs in sunflowers.
Standing on my tippy toes, I was finally able to see my car in the distance.
Had I really waded out that far in this delicious sea of yellowness? (is that even a word?)
So as fast as my short little legs could take me,
I made it to my car, just seconds before the bottom dropped out of the sky.
I had gotten what I came for.
And I was happy.

  1. Those are so pretty , love seeing an entire field of them
Last year I planted a few and they got approximately 15 feet tall
    great pictures

  2. WOW! You got fantastic shots.I guess it would be easy to get lost in a sea of sunflowers, taller than you or I.Glad you made it out in time.

  3. Yes, we all love sunflowers. You sure got some terrific shots of them. I've walked in a field like that too. : )
Glad you eventually found your car!!

  4. I love sunflowers, so why didn't I grow any this year?!! *sigh* These are some great shots!

  5. You took some amazing photos! Any of them would be pretty in your banner. But of course I like the lavender you have there now! Hugs!

  6. Wow they are some really impressive photos. A real feast for the eyes, stunning. Hope you didn't get too wet?

  7. Such a happy post. Sunflowers make me smile.

  8. Those are beautiful!
Remember a few years ago everything in the stores had Sunflowers? Dresses, dishes, wallpaper, etc. I remember going shopping in my daughter, and she remarked that she liked sunflowers, but not on everything!
While I was away with my six year old granddaughter, we saw sunflowers. (She loved them!) and I told her the story about her mommy. She was totally confused, as she sees nothing but beauty in the sunflower!

  9. Whew...I'm glad that you made it back to your car before the rain came pouring down, Debby! Goodness, and yes, we all seem to love the happiness of sunflowers. They're like little yellow, sunshine-y faces. Thank you for taking the time to snap their beauty for us to admire, my friend.

  10. Now! that's and adventure, Debby, I am so glad you got to enjoy it before the rain. Sunflowers are one of my favorite flowers, we once planted a field of them and oh did I have fun.
    Thanks for sharing.

  11. What a wonderful getting lost! Your pictures are amazing, of course! Well worth the adventure, right? My cousin brought me sunflowers last week! They are just so cheery on my kitchen table! Just one of God's many designs --I'm sure He knew they would be cheery!

  12. Oh wow!! Gorgeous in deed!
Sunflowers are like happy faces, that is why I think we all love them so much.
You certainly found a field of God's beauty, what a joy!
Thank you for sharing the beauty with us~

  13. Oh, they are just the happiest flowers. My DIL always takes the Gran girls to nearby fields and does pictures of them and this years were just gorgeous. Beautiful post!

  14. I can just see you lost in a maze of glorious sunflowers, Debby. Oh wow oh wow!! Your photos ooze sunshine, happiness and perfection! Who cares about finding one's car, anyway.....remember don't let the sunshine spoil the rain. =)

  15. Hi there Debby, I haven't been by your blog all summer and stopped in to see what you've been up to. I am loving these sunflower pictures, wow, these are so detailed and so gorgeous! Great job! There is a big field of sunflowers not too far outside Charleston, I may have to go over and try to make some pictures. I also VERY MUCH enjoyed the post a few back about the old fashioned train ride up the mountain! Now that looked so fun! I might like to do that someday. I just loved all your pictures and telling about the loggers of yesteryear. Hope you are having a great summer!

  16. I love sunflowers too! I usually plant some but not this year... where did this year go anyway??? I can just imagine you out there in that field happy as can be. I'd love to go on a road trip and look for old barns and houses to photograph. I keep saying I'll do that. Someday...
    Hugs to you,

  17. You were lost in wonder as well as being lost in the sunflowers! Great shots and a great story, Debby.

  18. Oh, this reminds me of when my husband and I used to grow sunflowers in our garden...well, he did all the work, for the most part, and I just loved wandering out there and looking at the results of his labors! We saw a field of sunflowers not too long ago, and yes, I had to get out of the car and wander over and get nearer to them, too. So I understand the magnetism of sunflowers in a field! Glad you got back to your car before it rained! Thanks so much for sharing the beautiful photos!! God bless you, sweet friend. :)

  19. Phew! That was close. 🌧 No, I like sunflowers, but do not grow them and would not wander into a field of them to take photos...have never taken one photo of them...but I am certainly glad that you did! It looks as if you were dropped into a Monet painting. 🌻🌻🌻

  20. Oh Debby, I can see why you got lost among the sunflowers for I, too, got lost in them. Such sweet beauty, eh? :)

What a blessing to visit you, my friend. I HAVE MISSED YOU! I hope you are well and enjoying your summer. Happy August, dear one. HUGS!

  21. What gorgeous sunflowers standing so tall and proud. Not only its beauty but all the "birds" it feeds. How wonderful to have been lost in a field of sunflowers! They do have such a happy feel to them with their gorgous color!

  22. I absolutely love it when I drive by a field of sunflowers. It truly is an amazing sight! You captured them beautifully!! If I was lost, I wouldn't mine being lost in a sunflower field. :)

  23. How much fun was this! Girl, you do love an adventure! I hope you are feeling better and now on the mend. I'm still so out of touch. When will things slow down? I don't see retirement in the near future. The hubby and I are worked down to the bone. Being here with the babies is worth it though. Love ya, girl. I'm sure glad you are on facebook. Blogging is still difficult for me.

  24. Love me some sunflowers. They are so pretty. Sometimes where we hunt at in Georgia some of the farmers will plants fields of sunflowers. I just love it. Going to plant a few this month. Hugs and blessings to you my friend.

  25. OH what a dream to walk amongst the sunflowers! I've only seen pictures of them....but they're so beautiful! I love how you've captured them for memory!

  26. Sunflowers are so cheerful …

    All the best Jan
